Couples Therapy
Marriage and intimate relationships can grow to foster tremendous love and support or deteriorate into painful disappointment and heart break. Before a relationship breaks down it can be very helpful to understand the deeper meaning behind the fighting and withdrawal. To help couples return to previous states of happiness and fulfillment I practice Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT). EFT is short term (typically 20-30 sessions), empirically validated treatment based on emotion and attachment theory. Research has shown that the EFT model that moves 70-75% of couples from distress to recovery & gains for years after treatment. Having done this work I feel that EFT also translates well into understanding the needs of children and would undoubtedly bolster the child-rearing skills for any parent.
As a Certified EFT Therapist I have completed extensive training and supervision hours. During my time in San Francisco I was fortunate enough to train under some of the leaders of the EFT field including EFT founder Dr. Susan Johnson, Certified EFT Trainers Dr. Sam Jinich, Dr. Rebecca Jorgenson, and Dr. Mark Kaupp, and Certified EFT Supervisor Dr. Susan Glick. To further my expertise I continue to be in periodic supervision with Dr. Glick.
